To my knowledge this is the first free public wireless access point in Galion. (If anyone knows otherwise, I'd be interested in hearing about it.) There is a merchant downtown who offers wireless access to customers, but not to the public in general. (There are presumably also a number of unsecured private and residential access points, but wardriving
is a legally questionable activity that the library really cannot condone.) But now there's a truly free public access point, at the public library.
I have named the SSID publicaccess
, both to make it easy for people to find and also to indicate its intended purpose to anyone who might happen to wander across it.
As always, our regular internet access policy still applies, although we'll need to update some of the wording therein to clarify what things we don't want you to do in the library at all (e.g., anything illegal), and which things we just don't want you to do to the library's computers (chiefly, download and install software). The latter category of things will be permitted when you bring in your own computer and connect via the access point. While we're at it there might be another point or two in the policy that we may look at changing, but for now the policy as it stands is still in effect.
