Qualifications Desired:
- Excellent communication skills required in person as well as via phone and email
- Must be creative and have good computer skills. Must be able to stand at a desk for extended periods of time as needed and lift and carry up to 25 lbs (program materials, table and chairs)
- Must work well with the public and be able to pass a criminal background check
- Prior experience with displays, newsletters, social media, and graphic arts desired
- College education preferred, not required
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Full-time position (35 hours per week) with some working-hour flexibility
- Adult Programmer
- Develops and implements a wide range of programs for adults
- Schedules programs based upon demographic needs of the community
- Works some evening hours in order to host programs
- Manages and maintains yearly budgets for programming
- Collaborates with community organizations and businesses
- Creates necessary publicity for adult programs
- Adult Summer Reading Program & Christmas Open House
- Arranges for publicity
- Helps create the events and the program flow
- Provides incentives for readers and attendees, including purchasing prizes
- Keeps staff appraised of events and how they are to occur
- Social Media
- Maintains and updates library Facebook page
- Displays
- Creates displays for the four front display cases
- Creates and maintains book displays to encourage reading on various subjects
- Creates displays for large back window when necessary
- Responsible for putting up, decorating, then taking down the Christmas tree
- Creates other displays as needed
- Advertisements & Press Releases
- Writes press releases advertising upcoming events and sends to newspapers, cable, or radio as needed
- Creates fliers and distributes them within the library and in the community
- Bulletin Board
- Collects and places appropriate information on the upstairs bulletin board
- Maintains bulletin board in neat condition and keeps it up to date
- Circulation Desk
- Will work at circulation desk attending to the following duties:
- checking items in and out
- placing reserves on materials for the patrons
- making faxes and photocopies
- scheduling internet computers and meeting rooms
- making suggestions to patrons about reading selections
- occasionally shelving materials as needed
- Will work days and evenings at the circulation desk, some Saturdays, and substitute for other staff as necessary
- Responsible for the upkeep and addition of items to the library's activity kit lending program
- Attends conferences and workshops relevant to designated work
- Serves in any area of the library at the request of the director
- Performs other duties as required
Compensation:
$24,000/year with additional benefits
